Exploring Universe! (Part 1)

Exploring Universe! (Part 1)

Spread the love

I have always loved reading about space, planets, moon, stars like I have always been very curious about the life beyond earth and the whole universe and as this lockdown has given me my free time in abundance, sometimes whole day I keep reading about all these things the more I read the more intriguing it becomes. I remember when I was in my hostel I was reading a book called ” SAPIENS” by Yuval Noah Harari and I was blown away by that book. That book will tell you why everything is in the way they are today. How we humans have evolved and has described the history of human kind in the most exciting and interesting way. So after completing that book I remember this funny thing which was happening with me that time I constantly used to stare at the sky I used to walk outside by looking above and many a times I’ve fallen, bumped into people like so many time. After this my curiosity never ended and is still onto my mind I’m so fascinated with Universe and it’s facts. Nowadays im into all of these all the time.

So here I am with some facts and some of my inner thoughts and views based on what I have read so far:

The universe is currently estimated as around 13.8 billion years old. Billion years ago the universe emerged from a hot, dense sea of matter and energy and as the cosmos expanded and cooled, it gave birth to galaxies, planets, stars and life. Can we imagine that? No, right! Ofcourse we can’t because human species haven’t been originally made like that we are one of the very tiniest part of this universe our mind is so tiny to even imagine about how big and how old is our universe. So this all started with a BIG BANG. The Big Bang is how astronomers explain the way the universe began. It is the most leading explanation about how the universe began. When the universe began, it was just hot, particles mixed with light and energy. It was nothing like what we see now. With time everything expanded and took up more space and it cooled down. The tiny particles grouped together and they formed atoms. Then those atoms grouped together and after few billion years those atoms come together to form stars and galaxies.

The first stars created bigger atoms and group of atoms called molecules that led to the birth of countless stars. The crashing and groupings of galaxies formed the things like asteroids, comets, planets, and the very black hole. The big Bang theory at its simplest says the universe as we know it started with a small singularity, then inflated over the next 13.8 billion years to the cosmos that we know today.

And now comes the MILKY WAY which is the galaxy that contains our Solar System. The sun and all the planets around it are part of the milky way galaxy. This galaxy is a enormous group of stars, gas and dust bound together by gravity. They all varies in shape and sizes. All the stars that we see in the night sky are in our milky way galaxy. It is called Milky because it appears as a Milky band of light in the sky in dark as described by the astronomers. The milky way is the barred spiral galaxy with a estimated visible diameter between 170,000 and 200,000 light-years. A light year is the unit of distance. It is the distance that light can travel in one year. Light moves at a velocity of about 300,000 km each second. So in one year, it can travel about 10 trillion km. Milky way is estimated to contain 100-400 billion stars. These stars form a large disk whose diameter is about 100,000 light years. Our solar system is about 25,000 light years away from the centre of the milky way galaxy, it’s in the suburbs of the galaxy. As all the planets revolves around the sun , the sun revolves around the centre of the milky way galaxy. It takes 250 million years for our sun and the solar system to go all the way around the centre of the milky way.

What exciting thing is that there are billions of other galaxies like milky way are in the universe. Phewww! Man. How massive this universe is like beyond anyone’s imagination how tiny we species are I mean like so so so tiny we are in this whole universe. We humans might be the most powerful species among all the others cohabiting with us but only on this planet Earth, not at all beyond that because the earth itself is a very small thing if we see it in the universe.

What amazes me about we humans is that how great this human mind is that we even gave thought about going beyond our planet and explore the universe. Just think how amazingly we have evolved so much that now we atleast know what is beyond this planet , how it all started ,what is happening above the sky, how we have come into existence and how human kinds started. And still humans are not done with this discovery of facts about universe. Our astronomers, scientists are continuously working on it every day to know more and more and more about it and it will go till the end because the universe itself seems infinite, the more we try to get closer the more bigger and wider it becomes. The more of our questions we solve then the more questions it adds. So far as much as I have read what I genuinely believe that the way we are looking for something similar to us or any living species as us other than on the earth , the same way someone very far from us is also looking for us too.

I have plenty and plenty of facts to write about it but I will wrap it here and will add more to it in the next blog I hope after reading this now you’ve also become inquisitive like me regarding our Universe.

Keep on reading!
